Punctuality

Students who arrive at school on time are more relaxed and feel more organised. We encourage you to assist your child by being punctual. If your child arrives after 8.50 am they need to sign a late slip at the front office. Punctuality is also very important at the end of the day. Children do get distressed if parents are late to pick them up, and teachers need this time after school to prepare for the next day’s lessons. If you are delayed please call the school as soon as possible on 9232 3500.

Children leaving school grounds

Once a child arrives at school that child becomes the responsibility of the school. Permission is not granted for the children to leave the school grounds except in special circumstances and with written consent of the parent or guardian. Children who regularly go home for their lunch are required to produce one general covering note to the class teacher.

Picking students up early

If you need to take your child off school premises during school hours you are required by law to complete a form at the school administration office prior to collecting your child. A copy of this form is handed to the teacher and a copy is retained by the parent/carer.

Absences

Every day is important to your child’s education. Unfortunately, children do get ill or have appointments that they must attend. If your child is absent, please contact the school. School staff will contact you if your child is absent from school and the school has not been advised.

If your child is absent for a long period of time you must provide a written explanation to the teacher upon their return. If the student is absent for more than 90% of the school year, the principal will need to discuss the absences with you at a meeting.

If your child is unwell, please do not send them to school. If your child is unable to participate in normal school activities you will be contacted and asked to collect them.

If your child is sick or involved in an accident at school, we will call the emergency number you give us so please ensure your contact details are kept up to date. Sick children will not be allowed to walk home – you must pick them up.

Attendance has been a major focus of the Department of Education for many years, as all research shows that regular attendance is necessary to improve student learning.
