Newsletter Term 3 – Week 2

Dear Parents

We have had a wonderful start to Term 3 with students (and teachers) returning from their holidays eager to learn and get back in to the school routine.  It is wonderful to see that nearly every student is wearing their school shirts.  It would be fantastic if you could help support this with jumpers as well – red or black jumpers are acceptable.

Mr Read will be returning to the school on Monday 5 August, just in time for a busy term.  We have lots to look forward to in Term 3 with various sports carnivals and our Open Night on 5 September.  There will be the usual free sausage sizzle, wonderfully cooked by Mr Read and his merry helper Raewyn – they must be wonderful cooks because we ran out quickly so make sure you pass by the front of the school for your dinner that night!

Student are now expected to line up outside of their classrooms in the mornings, when they arrive at school, as opposed to the undercover area.  This is working well with all students showing great responsibility and making positive choices.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the school for their hard work and dedication to Yale PS throughout Semester 1.  Let’s continue working together to develop our great school community.

P& C Association News

Annual Book Sale

Our first fundraiser for this term will be held during Book Week. From Monday 19 August to Friday 23 August, we will be holding our Annual Book Sale. Books will be available to purchase for $4 each from 8.20am to 8.50am each morning. We are looking for volunteers to assist with helping at the stall, please let us know if you can assist. More information will some home next week.

Fathers Day Stall

We will be holding our Father’s Day Stall on Wednesday 28 August and Thursday 29 August for our Blue Group Kindys. Friday 30 August is a Pupil Free Day this year, so please ensure that children get their gifts on Wednesday. We require volunteers for this stall, please let us know if you can assist.

Faction Sports Carnival

Our Faction Sports Carnival is to be held on Friday 13 September. The P&C would like to hold a sausage sizzle, but unfortunately we have been lacking volunteers over the past few years – as we like to watch our kids in their events too. If you would be happy to offer your assistance throughout the day for 30 minutes or so, we can work out a rotation to make sure everyone gets a chance to watch their children’s events. If we are unable to source enough volunteers, we will not be able to hold the Sausage Sizzle. We will be offering Subway orders again, and may be able to run a cake stall if there is no sausage sizzle.

Please let us know if you are able to assist in the sausage sizzle.

The year 6 students will walk you through Aylesford Reserve and show you some of the unique plants in Aylesford Reserve.

“CHAPLAIN’S CHAT”

Dear Parents and Families,

I would like to introduce myself as the new School Chaplain at Yale Primary School. I started here mid-way through last term and am already beginning to feel at home – thanks to the friendliness of staff and the welcoming smiles of your beautiful children! Let me tell you a little bit about myself – My former career was in primary school teaching. I have been married for twelve years and we have two boys – one in year four and the other year seven. My hobbies include crafts and card -making, travel and watching a good movie! I also have a love of animals and nature.

As a mother and former teacher, I am keenly aware of how precious the growing years are. We all aspire for our kids to have a happy upbringing and positive education so that they develop into caring, responsible and mature young adults. My role as chaplain is one of Pastoral Care. I provide support for the various physical, mental and emotional needs of everyone in the school community. My predecessor, Bev Pabedinskis, contributed many years of dedicated service to the school and I hope to do the same.

Seasons For Growth is a fantastic program for children dealing with feelings of loss/ bereavement. ‘Seasons’ takes place in small groups and will be starting up in term four. More information will be provided throughout this term and notes sent home to all families.

The ‘Hive’ is an indoor play area in the room next to my office. It is open every lunch time on a Monday Tuesday and Friday for all students. The Hive is stocked with lots of games, toys, teddies, puzzles, blocks, dress-ups and colouring-in supplies. Please note that we could do with more dress-up donations. EveryTuesday lunch the kids get to do crafts with me in this space.This term we are doing scrapbooking. The children will get to take these home at the end of the term.

At the beginning of next term I will be starting up a GARDEN CLUB. This will be a seasonal club, taking place in the warmer months (Terms 1 & 4). Immediately after school every second Friday, it will include time for afternoon-tea. We are looking for any parents who are interested in helping out. Please let me know if you are one! More information will be given closer to next term.

My days at school include Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, 8.00am to 4.00pm. My door is always open for anyone to drop in for a chat (casual or other) or alternatively an appointment can be made. Simply call admin and have them put you through to my office. My room is located in the computer building (opposite admin). It can be accessed through the side gate, next to the Lote room. I am very much looking forward to all the great activities planned for the rest of this year and time spent getting to know all the awesome students at Yale Primary!

Student Achievements

We are very proud to announce that one of our Year 6 students Rebecca Scamozzi has been cast and will appear in the hit musical “The Wizard of Oz at the Regal Theatre in Subiaco.

The producers have generously given the discount code word “WIZARD” to use for our school.  This code will give those who purchase a $10 discount per ticket! Check out the website on www.wizarddofozperth.com.auor purchase tickets on www.ticketek.com.au. The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic and would be worth going along to see.

We appreciate all of the hard work and time that Rebecca would have had to put into this production and we congratulate her.
