Newsletter Term 2 – Week 4

Dear Parents,

As you might be aware, during the last 2 weeks of this term we have been running the NAPLAN tests.  Regrettably, there were some connectivity issues that have disrupted our NAPLAN testing.  Understandably, some students may have been impacted to an extent that it  may have affected their performance in their assessments. As a school, we  have reported the connectivity issues to the Schjool Curriculum and Standards Authority who administers NAPLAN Online for the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) in Western Australia.

We have now been advised by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority that affected students in the school who experienced significant disruption will have the opportunity to re-sit the tests.  If your child been affected, you will have received a letter to inform you when the make-up test will take place.  In considering whether your child should re-sit the test, please be aware that the result of the second test will be the result that is recorded, as your child’s result for NAPLAN 2019.

Mr Melling, Mr Scotland and Mrs Hardman have been running the on-line NAPLAN tests.  Mr Melling has been overseeing and organising the tests whilst Mr Scotland and Mrs Hardmnan have been assisting Mr Melling to make sure that the students are well supported when using the electronic devices.  If you have any enquiries, please contact
Mr David Melling on 9493 2088.

Glen Read – Principal

Friday 31st May is when staff will be attending professional development courses.  Therefore, students will not be attending on that day.  Please remember also that Monday 3rd June is a Public Holiday and children will not be attending on that day as well.

We still have quite a few family photos which have been ordered and paid for waiting to be picked up from the office.  Please come in and collect them.  Thank you.

If you have misplaced your copy of the notice advertising the Yale P & C Disco which has the consent form to be completed on it, the office has some extra copies for you.

Families planning holidays during the school term, please complete an application for Students Taking In-Term Holidays.  For this holiday to be recorded as “Authorised”, parents/carers must complete this application and agree to provide some educational opportunities for their children.

These were sent out a week or so asking parents and students for approval to be given to access online services as well as permission to publish images of students and students’ work.  This pack is self-explanatory, however, if you require clarification, please contact the school.  If you have misplaced the documents, there are spare copies in the office.

If you are having problems using “Connect” for daily notices from teachers to parents as well as giving you the opportunity to view your child’s work and achievements, please go to “Information” on this website and follow the instructions.  Please contact the office if you require assistance.

Parents and caregivers, we are happy for you to transfer regular payments to the school bank account for your child’s up-coming excursions.  You may find it easier to budget for a small amount each week to be transferred as a credit for your child to use for any excursions, incursions and swimming lessons.

This amount will remain a credit on your child’s school record and any portion not used will roll over to the following year.  Please call our front office staff to discuss.

We will be holding our Annual Disco on this Friday the 24th May. This will be held in the new undercover area. There will be two sessions, Kindy to Year 2 will be 5pm to 6.15pm and Year3 to Year 6 will be 6.30pm to 8pm. Tickets will be available for sale from Monday 20th May to Friday 24th May in the mornings between 8.20am and 8.50am. There are spare forms at the office if needed. Students will not be able to purchase tickets without a signed permission slip. There will be no tickets sold at the door. Students must be collected from inside the undercover area, no student will be released until a parent or guardian is present.

We will be looking for volunteers to work at the sausage sizzle, in the canteen selling lollies and drinks, toilet runs, and general assistance in supervision. If you are able to help in any way, please let us know.

Please check Facebook for any updates or speak to one of the committee around the school.

The P&C thanks you for your continued support!
